Behind the Scenes: What It Takes to Feed 300 People
By Altaïr Foundation
When you read that we've helped 300+ people through food distribution, it might sound like a simple operation. Buy food, hand it out. But the reality of running multi-city food distribution campaigns across Europe involves logistics that would challenge much larger organizations.
Planning Months in Advance
Each distribution campaign begins months before the actual event. We identify communities with the highest need by working with local social services, refugee support organizations, and community centers. We map out distribution points that are accessible to the most vulnerable populations while maintaining their dignity and privacy.
The Food Boxes
Our food packages aren't random collections of cheap items. Each box is designed to provide approximately one week of nutritious meals, including fresh produce, protein sources, and culturally appropriate options. For our refugee-focused distributions, we pay special attention to dietary requirements and familiar ingredients.
We source from local suppliers wherever possible, supporting the local economy while reducing transportation costs and environmental impact.
The Human Element
Numbers tell part of the story, but the real impact is in the faces of the families we serve. Parents who can focus on finding employment because they don't have to worry about tonight's dinner. Children who receive proper nutrition during critical development years. Elderly individuals who regain a sense of community connection.
Along with food, we provide information about available social services — housing assistance, job training, healthcare access — creating pathways that go beyond immediate hunger relief.
How You Can Help
We're always looking for volunteers, especially in Paris, Berlin, and Barcelona. Even a few hours of your time can make a significant difference. And if you can't volunteer in person, financial support goes directly to purchasing food and supplies — no overhead, no administrative waste.
